Everyone, at some point in life, experiences unintended modification of individually biopsychosocial nursling like as physical functions and psychosocial roles due to injury, illness, disability, retirement, aging or other factors. Such modification can bring not only physically- and psychosocially-experiencing pain but also impairments of meaning of a persons’ existence especially in a society where one’s abilities and roles are readily linked to one’s worth. Subsequently, these biopsychosocial pain feelings, which is defined as “reframing pain” in this project, might get worse and worse. The hardships and vulnerabilities arising from “reframing pain” can induce respects and engagements from others orbit around persons with “reframing pain”. And then, the persons with “reframing pain” can serve as a catalyst for care which manifests interpersonal communications and supports. Throughout these communications, other persons orbit around persons with “reframing pain” can also find themselves supported by others and reconsider their own biopsychosocial weakness and lifestyles. The roles of caregivers and care recipients are not fixed, and instead the roles can always switch positions with each other. And finally, care can be allowed to continuously circulate orbit around persons experiencing “reframing pain” throughout the entire society.

This research project plans to investigate and visualize the relationships between “reframing pain” and care arising from it, from the several lines of standing points of physical pain consequent to injury or illness, psychosocial pain linked to unintended modification of occupational and psychosocial roles and the physical disability and its body augmentation. We plan to explore the conditions how reciprocal and circulating care expands from small community to entire society level, based on our medical and palliative care perspective, participatory research approach, body-augmentation engineering like as prosthetics and digital visualization technologies.

Our goal of this research project is to realize the care-circulating society where presences themselves of persons with “reframing pain” consequent to experiencing unintended modification of individually biopsychosocial nursling. Regardless of their personal attributes, the persons serve as a catalyst for care to emerge reciprocally and then circulate in the society where the roles of caregivers and care recipients are not fixed. Realization of the society can make it easier for everyone to express and accept “reframing pain” each other.
